Water Regulation

USU has implemented the use of ponds/reservoirs to save water on campus. The location of the reservoir on the Main Campus is next to the USU central library, in front of the main building of the Faculty of Agriculture, around the Civil Engineering Department Building, Faculty of Engineering, Tambunan A Campus, and Kuala Bekala Campus. USU has also implemented biopore holes and infiltration wells on the Padang Bulan campus.

Universitas Sumatra Utara has implemented recycled water by building a Wastewater Treatment Plant at the university hospital. Water from this Wastewater Treatment Plant can be used for non-drinking water purposes. USU also built rainwater reservoirs to use rainwater to water plants and wash vehicles. In addition to the existing rainwater storage installations, based on the 2019 activity budget plan, in 2020, it is planned to build rainwater storage installations in several buildings on the Padang Bulan campus. Now, the structure is in progress.

Water-saving equipment (high-efficiency toilet sprinklers) in USU campuses have been installed, mainly in new and renovated buildings. This has increased water usage efficiency by around 45%. USU has also used sensor-based water appliances and efficient automatic water use for plant management in the Padang Bulan Campus.
